Winona is awfully close to La Crosse, Wisconsin. As a matter of fact, Eric & I drove through La Crosse to reach Winona. So on Friday, April 5th, after an awesome big breakfast with Whit & Sky & Devin (one of their other housemates) we drove back to La Crosse to hang around and wait for our show that night at the Root Note. This was our second time playing at the Root Note, and we really love the venue. It was nice to see familiar faces, then to see that my artwork still decorates part of the venue (the last time we were here they commissioned me to paint a mini mural on the side of a bathtub that houses some large goldfish by the register). Plus, they treated us to a couple of really delicious savory crepes and a couple of local Wisconsin beers. A bar that also serves coffee & crepes. What a great idea. (I didn’t take many photos this time around, but check out the blog from our last visit!)
Whit & Sky showed up again soon before we started, and it was nice to see new friends there. The show went really well and we had a lot of fun, and Whit’s dad won the bid on the painting for Whit for her Birthday later that week (two Birthday gift paintings in a row!)
As we were cleaning up Whit’s parents then invited us to stay the night at their place a couple minutes away. Whit & Sky were also spending the night, so we all headed back to their place and met all of Whit’s parents’ cats! They’ve adopted a couple abandoned kittens and had one that looked just like our cat Sister. We had a wonderfully restful night’s sleep and woke up bright and early for another big breakfast made by Whit’s dad. He use to be a firefighter and had this special way to cook scrambled eggs he learn from doing big fundraiser breakfasts. It was awesome.
